For this project, I interpreted the text from Mike Monteiro’s Essay, A Designer’s Code of Ethics visually based on my response to it.

Concept

The statement “A designer does not believe in edge cases” was meaningful to me, so I initially sketched some designs based on that, but didn’t come up with anything I liked. I moved on to “A designer values impact over form” and came up with one design concept that I liked. I thought about combining “A designer is first and foremost a human being” and ”A designer takes time for self-reflection” as a set of profiles, as in the popular optical illusion in which the form of a vase is created between the profiles. I could then place impact in large letters over this form to also illustrate “A designer values impact over form”.

In the process of discussing and getting feedback on my project, I realized that the two profiles could represent 2 people looking at one another. With that in mind, I added the “A designer is a human being” to one profile and “A designer does not believe in edge cases” to the other.
